MEN'S SOCCER COMES UP SHORT, FALLS 4-3 TO WHEELING JESUIT

ELKINS, WV - Wheeling Jesuit scored three goals in the first half and held on to defeat Davis & Elkins 4-3 in WVIAC men's soccer action on Saturday at River Bend Park.

David Nuernberg gave the Senators a 1-0 lead at the );39 mark when he blasted a shot past WJU keeper Cody Thomspon into the upper right corner.

Andrew Hickey scored for the Cardinals at the 4:17 mark to even the score at one.  Ignacio Fernandez scored 36 seconds later to give Jesuit a 2-1 lead.

Goerge Noubossie scored at the 16:46 mark to give the Cardinals a 3-1 at halftime.

The Senators put together a furious rally late in the match when senior defender Timothy Bugge converted a penalty kick at the 79:24 mark to put the score at 3-2.

Three minutes later the Cardinals pushed their lead to 4-2 when they received an "own goal" off a corner kick.

Freshman midfielder Wyatt Hill converted a penalty kick at the 84:24 mark to provide the final margin.

Freshman goalkeeper Daniel Nock suffered the loss in goal and finished with three saves, while Cody Thompson had two saves for WJU.

D&E falls to 3-4 overall, 1-2 in WVIAC action, while WJU improves to 3-4-1, 2-1-1.  The Senators return to action on Wednesday when they host Shepherd for a 5 p.m. match at Alderson-Broaddus.
