He returns for his 26th year at the helm of the Davis and Elkins
College Men’s Cross-Country team and his 11th season as
Women’s Cross-Country Coach. With over 31 years of coaching
experience, he continues to share his wealth of knowledge in
running with the Senator’s cross-country programs.
During his coaching tenure at D&E, Shaw established the
program by winning two WVIAC cross-country titles in 1990 and 1991.
Shaw is a three-time WVIAC Coach of the Year and won the East
Region Distinguished Service Award in 2000. He has been the Meet
Director for nine West Virginia High School Cross-Country
Championships, twice directed the WVIAC Championship Meet and
served as Director of the NCAA Division II East Regional
Championship in 2002. He started his D&E coaching career in
1984.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Shaw has
served as an Instructor in History and was the Director of
Athletics from 1988-2002. During the 2008-2009 school year
Coach Shaw served as the assistant athletic director and also
helped with compliance issues.
During his coaching tenure at Elkins High School from
1974-1988, his teams dominated the their league winning 7 Big Ten
titles in cross country and 4 titles in track and field. In
additions his cross-country teams won 2 state championships and
were runners-up twice. Shaw’s success has gained the respect
of his peers as one of the finest cross-country and track and field
coaches in the state of West Virginia.
