SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH GLENVILLE STATE

ELKINS, WV - The Davis & Elkins softball team split a pair of games on Saturday with Glenville State at the Allen Athletic Fields Complex.  The Senators won the first game 2-1 and dropped the second game 5-3.  D&E celebrated Military Appreciation Day and wore special camouflage shirts during the game to honor everyone who has fought for our country.

D&E won the second game 2-1 as pitcher Alanna Jones went the distance to earn the victory.  Glenville scored first in the top of the fourth when Kayleigh Huck hit a solo homerun. 

The Senators responded in the bottom of the fourth when they plated two runs.  Amanda Serafini led off the inning with a single to leftfield and then stole second base.  Mallory Wishard blasted a double to the centerfield fence.  With Serafini on third and Wishard on second,Carissa Dunn hit a single up the middle to score two runs.

Amanda Serafini led the offense as she went 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Carissa Dunn went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs, and Mallory Wishard was 1-for-3 with a double and one run scored.

The Senators dropped the nightcap 5-3 as pitcher Autumn Appleby took the loss.

The Pioneers got on the board first when they scored one run in the first inning.  Carlee Charton scored the run off a sacrifice fly by Brittany Spencer.

D&E evened the score in the bottom of the first when Amanda Serafini singled, advanced to second on a passed ball, reached third on Jenifer Kennon's single and scored off another passed ball.

Corrine Carrington doubled in the second inning and advanced to third off a bunt by Lizzy Williamson, and later scored off a double by Daniella Vineyard.

The Pioneers scored one run in the top of the third to tie the game at two.

D&E took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Jenifer Kennon reached first off a walk, and then scored off a single by Mallory Wishard.

Glenville scored two runs in the top of the sixth when Huck singled, Spencer singled, and Shelby Colson followed with a single that plated two.  The Pioneers added another run in the top of the seventh of a D&E error to secure the win.

D&E improves to 17-18 overall and 3-5 in the WVIAC, while Glenville State falls to 10-16 and 4-1.

The Senators will host Ohio Valley Sunday in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. at the Allen Athletic Fields Complex.
