DEFENSE PROPELS D&E WOMEN PAST WEST LIBERTY

ELKINS, WV -The Davis & Elkins women's basketball team defeated West LIberty University 74-63 in WVIAC action Monday night at The McDonnell Center.  The Senators built a 30-18 halftime lead as they defended West Liberty and their perimeter shooting and forced the Hilltoppers into 14 turnovers in the first half. 

Sophomore guard Rachel Gostomski scored a game-high 23 points to lead three people in double figures for the Senators.  Gostomski finished 5-of-5 from the free throw line and added four rebounds.

Junior guard Page Turner added 15 points and five assists, while Jorden Lykes finished with 11 points and five rebounds.

Sophomore Alicia Lentz scored eight points and added four rebounds  in 12 minutes off action off the bench for D&E. 

Jenn Cessna led West Liberty with 19 points and was 9-of-9 from the charity stripe.  Hillary Southworth and Emily Blevins finished with eight points each, but the Senators kept Southworth from reaching double figures for the first time all season.

D&E limited West Liberty to 4-of-15 shooting from behind the arc, while the Senators finished 7-of-21 (33.3 percent).

D&E held a 33-32 rebounding edge and also forced 20 West Liberty turnovers.

The Senators will travel to Buckhannon Saturday for a key WVIAC contest with rival West Virginia Wesleyan at 2 p.m.
