VOLLEYBALL DROPS FINAL MATCH OF REGULAR SEASON

The WVSU volleyball team celebrated Senior Night by finishing off its regular season with a 3-1 win over visiting Davis & Elkins (12-26, 4-10) Friday night.

After State took the opening two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-20 the Senators rallied to capture set three 25-19. The Yellow Jackets came out determined in set four and grabbed an early 12-4 lead on the way to a 25-14 win to close out the match.

The Yellow Jackets' lone senior, Leisha Salyer, had a big night as she led the defensive effort with 19 digs.

With the victory the Yellow Jackets end up with a 7-7 conference mark good for 9th place and an 11-12 overall record.

Davis & Elkins was led by junior Heather Zapf on the attack with 16 kills.  Senior Jana Lowe handed out 24 assists and had 14 digs.  Defensively, the Senators were led by junior Meaghan Emery with 26 digs.

The Senators go into WVIAC tournament play as the 11 seed and will face #6 seed Charleston at 11am Thursday morning at the Charleston Catholic Athletic Complex.
